Movember against Cancer

Have you recently noticed more and more moustaches on men’s faces?  If you think they‘re just big fans of the Village people, Tom Selleck or Freddy Mercury, you’re totally wrong. No, these men are modern heroes! They’re just trying to fight prostate cancer by taking part in Movember.

On November 1^st, guys register at www.movember.com with a clean-shaven face. Until the end of the month, these selfless and generous men, known as Mo Bros (brothers), groom, trim and wax their way into the annals of fine moustachery. Supported by the women in their lives, Mo Sistas (sisters), Movember Mo Bros raise funds by seeking out sponsorship for their Mo-growing efforts.

Born in Melbourne, Movember (A mo is a moustache in Australia) has grown to become a truly global movement with their formal campaigns in Australia, Canada and now around the world.

During Movember 2004, which was the first fund raising year, 450 guys in Australia raised 54 000 dollars but six years later in Movember 2010, thanks to the advance of social media, 450 000 guys from all over the world raised 81 million dollars.

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer to afflict men in the world. Via the moustache, Movember aims to fulfill its vision of having an everlasting impact on the face of men’s health by continuing to spark conversation and spread awareness of men’s health each year.
